Impact Story
Alawagana is a small village located at the edge of Lafia East Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, where most families are from the Gwandara and Hausa groups. Daily life is built around farming, small trading, and local crafts like basket weaving.
Getting water was never simple. During dry periods, the water level dropped so low that people had to wait for it to slowly gather, and when it finally settled, the water was often unsafe. Young girls would leave home early and still return late, tired and with very little water, causing many to miss school or struggle to keep up. Children also frequently suffered from waterborne diseases as a result.
Lifewater arrived and drilled a brand-new borehole in Alawagana. Safe water became easier to fetch, and the long waiting stopped. Homes began to feel more settled, and girls now have more time for school and rest.
