Impact story

Maikwari Central Mosque serves the rural Maikwari community in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where most families are involved in farming and pottery. For a long time, the mosque and surrounding households depended on an open well for water. 

The well had no proper cover, and frogs, insects, leaves, and other debris regularly fell into it. Children often

complained of stomach illness after using the water, and during prayers and gatherings at the mosque, the shortage of safe water remained a constant concern. 

Lifewater arrived and drilled a brand-new borehole for Maikwari. Safe water began to flow within the community, bringing an end to dependence on the contaminated open well. The mosque and surrounding homes now have access to reliable safe water, hygiene has improved, and the fear that once surrounded their water source has faded.
