Impact Story
At Gwako Secondary School in Gwagwalada, students long faced serious sanitation challenges. During rainy season, bad smells and flooding made conditions worse. Girls especially suffered during their monthly cycles without private, functional toilets. Students often avoided using toilets, holding back until home or resorting to bushes near the compound. Attendance suffered, especially among girls, due to shame, discomfort, or illness from poor toilet conditions.
After Lifewater constructed a modern toilet block for the school, the impact was clear. Students expressed relief. Girls no longer missed school due to shame or hygiene-related discomfort. The compound became cleaner, students more comfortable and confident. The learning environment improved as students could concentrate better without distraction from discomfort or horrible smells. “Thank you, Lifewater, for bringing health and a safer place for learning,” cheer the students of Gwako Secondary School.
