Gurusu

Impact story

Gurusu is a farming community in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, where families depend on agriculture, fishing during the rainy season, and small local activities for their daily survival. The community endured months of hardship after their borehole stopped functioning. With no other choice, the villagers turned to a polluted water source shared with animals. The water was contaminated as animals bathed and defecated in it, posing serious health risks. The unsafe water brought frequent sickness to many households, and parents worried as children became weak from repeated illness.

Lifewater came to their rescue, rehabilitating the damaged borehole and restoring safe water to the people. Today, the contaminated pond has been abandoned, health is improving, and the community can once again access safe water close to their homes.
