Dugun Mashalachi

Impact Story

Dugun Mashalachi is a quiet community known for local tailoring and the selling of farm produce in nearby markets. Many families here work from morning till evening just to provide for their households. For a very long time, the community had no safe water source. Residents relied on hand-dug wells that were shallow, often contaminated, and prone to drying up, especially during the dry season. During those periods, people struggled to get even small amounts of water. Most times, women had to wake up before sunrise to fetch before the wells became crowded or completely dry for the day. Arguments were common because everyone depended on the same weak water sources that exposed families to waterborne diseases. Lifewater intervention through drilling a new borehole revolutionized water access in the community. The borehole provides safe water directly within the community, eliminating the need for long, risky journeys. Health improved significantly, with fewer cases of diarrhea and cholera reported. The consistent water supply also supported agricultural practices, enhancing food security and income. Dugun Mashalachi’s residents now enjoy a better quality of life, strengthened by Lifewater crucial support that delivered hope, health, and opportunity.
