Augu Dakachi

Impact story

Augu Dakachi is a close-knit community in Lafia East Local Government Area of Nasarawa State where the people are known for processing guinea corn for nearby markets. 

The people historically depended on a hand-dug well for their water needs. During the rainy season, it would overflow with muddy water, and in the dry season, it often ran dangerously low. The well’s water was often unsafe, and illnesses linked to contaminated water remained common. The daily task of fetching water was physically demanding, particularly for women and children, affecting school attendance and limiting time for farming and other livelihood activities. Lifewater’s intervention in drilling a new borehole marked a turning point. The new borehole provided the community with a dependable supply of safe water year-round, bringing immediate improvements in health, reducing the burden of water collection, and allowing children to focus on education.
