Impact Story
Zhigbodo is a small rural settlement in Izom Ward of Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State. The community lies along the old Suleja-Izom-Diko axis. The people are primarily Gwari (Gbagyi), peaceful, hardworking farmers known for their deep connection to the land, while some engage in charcoal production, local brickmaking, or motorbike transport (okada) to supplement their income.
The community has long grappled with serious sanitation challenges that impacted both health and community pride. Open defecation was a common practice due to the absence of toilets, contributing to outbreaks of diarrhea and typhoid.
During our visit, we provided the community with a new, well-constructed latrine. This marked the beginning of a huge transformation in the community. Today, Zhigbodo stands as a shining example of positive change. The once dirty corners are now clean, the familiar stench is gone, and sickness from diarrhea has drastically reduced. The people thank Lifewater for the good work and prayed for God’s abundance on those who turned their shame to pride and dignity.
