ECWA Mission House in Abaji

Impact Story

ECWA Mission House in Abaji Area Council, FCT Abuja has long been a place where families gather for prayer, counselling, community support, and mission activities. Yet behind the warmth of the compound was a hidden struggle, there was no proper toilet for anyone to use. Staff members, mothers attending fellowship, and children who came for weekly programs were often forced to step into nearby bushes to relieve themselves. For women and young girls especially, this was deeply uncomfortable. Many waited for long hours, avoiding water or holding themselves until they got home. During evening programs, the fear of going outside in the dark made things worse. Beyond the embarrassment and inconvenience, the lack of sanitation created health concerns, unpleasant smells around the compound, and frequent cases of sickness linked to poor hygiene. This situation not only compromised their dignity but also exposed them to health risks and personal safety concerns. Recognizing how much this situation affected the mission house, Lifewater stepped forward to help.  The team assessed the area, and began constructing a modern, clean, and accessible toilet facility. This new restroom was designed to serve the staff, visitors, and especially vulnerable groups such as women and children, ensuring privacy and safety. Since the construction of the toilet, the environment at ECWA Mission House has transformed remarkably. The distress and difficulties once faced have been replaced by comfort and security. The toilet facility has eliminated the practice of open defecation on the premises, improving hygiene standards and fostering a healthier, more respectful setting for all who come to the mission house. The ECWA Mission House community expresses heartfelt appreciation to Lifewater for restoring comfort, safety, and dignity through this lifesaving sanitation project.
