Impact Story
Gwako 3 is a growing settlement where families rely on farming, petty trading, and motorcycle transport for livelihoods. The absence of proper toilets forced residents to defecate in open fields or use makeshift latrines that were unhygienic and unsafe. This practice exposed children to infections, contributed to the spread of cholera and dysentery, and created unsafe conditions for women. The construction of a new community toilet by Lifewater has transformed daily life in Gwako 3. Residents now have access to a clean, secure, and hygienic facility, which has significantly reduced open defecation and improved personal safety. Today, Gwako 3 enjoys cleaner surroundings and healthier families. Parents report fewer illnesses among children, and women express relief and safety in having private, accessible toilets. The community expresses heartfelt appreciation to Lifewater Nigeria for this project. The toilet has not only improved sanitation but also fostered a sense of pride and dignity among residents, making Gwako 3 a healthier and safer place to live.
