For a long time, the absence of proper toilet facilities in Bakin Rajiya community located in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State forced residents to practice open defecation in nearby bushes and open spaces. This situation created an unhealthy environment across the community. The surroundings often smelled unpleasant, especially during the rainy season when waste washed into living areas. Flies moved freely between waste and food, increasing the risk of disease. Families lived with constant discomfort, and maintaining hygiene was a daily challenge. The heavy practice of open defecation has also contributed to the spread of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid within the community. The construction of toilet in Bakin Rajiya by Lifewater has now provided the community with a cleaner, safer and dignified place for everyone to use. Open defecation has significantly reduced. The people of Bakin Rajiya are deeply grateful for this support, as it has restored dignity, cleanliness, and safety within the community.
