World Water Day 2024; “Water for Peace,”
World Water Day 2024 Celebration at Rugan-Abdulkadir, Gwagwalada
Lifewater Nigeria joined the global community to celebrate World Water Day 2024, (22nd march 2024) with the theme “Water for Peace,” at a Fulani Settlement; Rugan-Abdulkadir, along Kache Road Passo in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
The event brought together community members, local leaders, women, children, and the Lifewater Nigeria team in a joyful and meaningful gathering. It was a time not just to celebrate water, but to reflect on how access to clean water can bring unity, improve health, and reduce struggles within communities.
At the center of the celebration was the handpump provided for the community. For many families, this water point has changed daily life. Women and children would no longer walk long distances in search of water. Instead, they now have safe, clean water close to home, making life easier and healthier.
The Lifewater team also used the opportunity to engage the community on hygiene and sanitation practices. Simple but important messages on handwashing, safe water storage, and cleanliness were shared. The women actively participated, asking questions and sharing their experiences.
There was also a moment of excitement as items like water containers were distributed, bringing smiles and appreciation from the beneficiaries. The atmosphere was lively, with singing, dancing, and shared laughter, showing how something as basic as water can bring people together.
World Water Day 2024 reminded everyone present that water is more than a resource—it is a tool for peace. When communities have access to clean water, there is less conflict, better health, and more time for productive activities.
For Rugan-Abdulkadir, this celebration was not just an event, but a reflection of real change already taking place. Lifewater Nigeria remains committed to reaching more communities with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene support, so that more people can experience the peace that comes with it.
