Hakuri

Impact Story

Hakuri, a small community in Lafia East Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, where many families survive through petty trading, and seasonal farm work has faced difficulties for many years because safe water was never easy to find. The only source of water for the people was a small flowing stream located outside the settlement. The water looked brownish and dirty, especially during the rainy season when soil and waste flowed into it. People tried different local methods to purify the water before drinking it. Some allowed it to settle for hours, while others added local substances hoping it would become safer for use. Despite all these efforts, sickness continued to spread within the community. Cases of diarrhea became very common, especially among children. Many families lived in fear as children frequently fell sick after drinking the contaminated water. The situation brought pain and worry to many homes. Everything changed when Lifewater came to Hakuri and drilled a new borehole for the community. For the first time, the people had access to safe water close to their homes. The dirty stream was no longer the main source of drinking water, and theconstant fear of sickness began to reduce. The arrival of safe water brought joy to the entire community, as residents welcomed the end of water scarcity and illness. Today, homes are healthier, children are stronger, and the people of Hakuri are thankful for the new beginning that safe water has brought to their community.
