Impact Story

Gongon, located in Gwagwalada Area Council of FCT Abuja, is a bustling community where most families engage in farming, trading, and various small businesses to support their livelihoods. Daily life revolves around the farm, the local market, and neighbourhood activities. For a long time, access to safe water was a major challenge for residents. Residents depended on old wells and shallow streams that often ran dry during the dry season or became contaminated during rains. Women and children spent long hours fetching water from distant streams, sometimes shared with animals, while families who could afford buying water relied on expensive water vendors. The shortage of safe water disrupted daily chores and contributed to frequent illnesses among children and the elderly. Lifewater’s intervention transformed life in Gongon through the installation of a durable borehole. With a reliable source of safe water, families now have more time for farming and education, homes are cleaner, waterborne disease reduced and children can focus on school without the burden of fetching water. the community express heartfelt gratitude to Lifewater for the support which has brought convenience and relief to their community.
