IMPACT STORY

Federal Low-cost I, located behind the Specialist Hospital in Abaji Area Council, FCT Abuja, is a closely knit settlement made up mostly of civil servants, petty traders, artisans, and small farming households. Life in the area is modest and busy, with families balancing daily work, and household responsibilities. Despite being near a major health facility, residents faced a serious challenge that affected everyday life. Water access has been a persistent challenge here, especially during the dry season when existing wells dry up, become contaminated and leaving the people no other option but to purchase water from vendors at high costs. Women and children bore the heavy burden of fetching water from distant sources, which often impacted children’s school attendance, family wellbeing and leads to frequent cases of waterborne disease especially among children. Lifewater’s intervention brought lasting relief to the community through the provision of a new borehole. The borehole was properly constructed to serve both households and surrounding users with safe, reliable water. Today, residents no longer depend on unsafe wells or costly vendors. Water is available close to home, children’s health has improved, and daily routines have become easier. The people of Federal Low-Cost I are deeply thankful for this support, which has brought health, convenience and better living conditions to their community
