About 10 minutes from Gwagwalada is Chukuku Village, where safe water is an expensive commodity.

Many households rely on buying bulk water from vendors, who source it from boreholes, wells and shallow wells, and pools. The inhabitants of Chukuku spend an average of two US dollars in getting water from vendors daily, depending on the size and needs of the family. The cost of clean water in the Chukuku community constitute a significant challenge for a country with about 81 million people living below one dollar a day.

Muhammed Ngbaza narrated how the rehabs will impact and change their lives. He said, “You have spared us the money we use in buying water daily with the water you have given us. Now our children will no longer go to bed without food.”

The Chukuku community’s experience of lack of water buttresses that the negative impact of water scarcity is multifaceted and affects every aspect of community life; from the education of children to the health and general well-being and productivity of the residents.

Indeed, the rehabilitation of the Chukuku wells has changed and transformed lives in the community. There is safe water for all at no cost to the residents. Thank you, Lifewater Canada, for restoring hope and joy in the Chukuku community.
