Impact Story
For a long time, the community of Rugga Fulani in Gwagwalada Area Council faced a significant challenge: a complete lack of proper sanitation. With no toilets available, residents resorted to open defecation in the surrounding bushes. This practice led to terrible odors, especially during the rainy season, and frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases. The community recognized the urgent need for toilets but found the cost and construction to be prohibitive.
Lifewater arrived in Rugga Fulani and, importantly, we listened first. By asking questions and learning directly from the people, we understood their specific needs. Then, we acted. Working hand-in-hand with the community, we constructed a safe and much-needed toilet facility. This marked a huge turning point for Rugga Fulani. The story has now changed: families have a safe place to use, children are healthier, women feel safer, and the pervasive smell of waste is no longer in the air.
