Impact Story
Ashige II is a lively community where women are known for their vibrant weaving traditions and daily life revolves around the land and family routines. For a long time, the absence of proper toilet facilities made life uncomfortable for residents. Many households depended on makeshift pit latrines or nearby bushes, especially during early mornings or late evenings. During the rainy season, the situation became worse as waste was often washed into living areas, creating unpleasant conditions and increasing the risk of disease. These unsanitary practices led to a rise in illnesses like diarrhea and cholera, especially among children. Lifewater intervened by constructing a safe and durable toilet facility for the community. This new structure has provided a reliable and hygienic place for residents to use. Open defecation has reduced significantly, and the environment is now cleaner and safer for everyone. Ashige II is experiencing improved sanitation and better health conditions. Families feel more at ease, and the dignity of community members, especially women and children, has been restored. The community is grateful for this meaningful change.
